On the ground, in the water, and on your dinner table!Constructing a bridge for ATV traffic across Ophir Creek

The majority of the Yakutat Salmon Board’s projects focus on salmon habitat restoration in the Yakutat Forelands in and around the community of Yakutat. These include work in the Ophir Creek watershed (1994-2004), the Lost River/Greater Situk watershed (2005-ongoing), as well as invasive pike eradication efforts in Coho salmon rearing ponds.  Our restoration crew also stay busy creating hiking trails in and around the city of Yakutat.

These projects are prioritized and directed by a Conservation Action Planning process currently underway with the Nature Conservancy.  Projects are partially funded through a 1% for Salmon Tax through the City & Borough of Yakutat.  In order to bolster sustainable economic development in Yakutat, the Salmon Board has created the Yakutat Wild marketing campaign to increase revenues for family fishermen harvesting the region’s high-quality wild salmon products.
