Building a restoration economy on Alaska's outer coast

The Yakutat Salmon Board is an advisory council to the City and Borough of Yakutat, Alaska, located on the unique and beautiful Yakutat Forelands. Founded in 1994, we've orchestrated a series of innovative projects in restoration, education, and sustainable business. Collaborating with regional, state and national agencies, nonprofit organizations, and tribal groups, we achieve on the ground results by employing a local restoration work crew.

The mission of the Yakutat Salmon Board is to improve and protect watersheds and human communities within Yakutat through restoration, education, research, the promotion of sustainable economic development, and cooperation among all interests, using the collective wisdom and professional and civic actions of our community members.

The vision of the Yakutat Salmon Board is that watersheds and human communities in Yakutat are healthy, vibrant, and self-sustaining. To achieve this vision, we offer a public forum for discussion, innovation, and education. We are a resource for technical environmental knowledge and promote sustainable products, technology and industry. We facilitate cooperation and communication among public and private agencies so that together we work toward a common goal with the community. Our goal is to reach a point in time where all fishery resources are productive and healthy and the community understands and respects key watershed resources, processes and the land's connection to the marine environment. Through pride and awareness, the community protects and maintains pristine habitats and water quality throughout the Yakutat area.
